Hi. Yes, that is correct. My JRC cellular test set does phone registration & processes two way voice calls.
Acts like a mini base station, AMPS only.
There is an article about it in the library section.

Few....I just read your article. Very interesting! Unfortunately, this whole thing is way over my technical capabilities to handle it, and i think also money capabilities (I supposed is pretty expensive??). I guess i will stick to just watching my analog phones for now :lol: .

NMT test sets are extremely rare and much more expensive than AMPS ones so but there are some guys here who building NMT base station at home: viewtopic.php?t=129

That's very interesting. It appears that one is black or dark gray though.

What do you mean? Two types exists. The 1981 one and the 1982-3 presentation dummy for commercial purposes. You can see it in gallery. It is with a white edge on the black front end.

The phone shown on page 4 looks dark colored on the sides to me. But it could just be the lighting of the picture.
