Some great phones here Thomas but surely they can't all be 8000m's as they have an extra key.
I would say that if they have a NAME/MENU key then they are a derivative of the 8500X.
If they have small LED and LOCK then 8000X and large LED and LOCK then in the UK it would be a Independent, in the US maybe a 8500XL?

Hi Tailor,

Thank you very much! Motorola produced a lot of DynaTAC versions but they all have different model number codes:

8000X: F09DTD,,,
8000S: F09DSD..
8100L: F09GTD.. and F09FCD... The 8200X has F09GTD... as well.
8010: F09DRD
8500X: F09LGD... The Storno 220 and Stornophone 220 has F09LGD as well.
8500XL: F09FTD...

The smaller and later ETACS and NMT versions (e. a. 8800X) have F09YFD.. and F0YVD..,. The Independent has F09RGD, the 8900X-2 has F09YUD... and the 888 F09ZJD...

The 8000M starts in 1989 and the model number mostly begins with F09LFD... Some later models have F09PYD or model numbers like S5825A. The 8000M has different keypads but always large LED.

The Ultra Classic is much smaller (like the 8800X) and mostly has F09NFD... Some has F09QYD... or model numbers like 79113045A.

In my opinion there only two AMPS and ETACS versions equivalen, the 8000X and the 8000S.

Best regards
Thomas

Some additional to the 8000X and 8000S:

The US versions are labeled with DynaTAC 8000x and DynaTAC 8000S, the UK versions are labeled with 8000X and 8000X only.

Wow, some great info there, that's very useful.
Just checked my collection which contains all the UK models and all i can really add is I have F09YVD on my 8800X LED, 8800X LCD and the 8900x-2.
The rest all match up.

One of my 8500X's has F09ABC0000AB which is odd. I normally find the older models were made in the US and then when they slimmed down they are made in the UK. All my other 8500X's are made in the US so perhaps this was an earlier prototype when they started manufacturing in the UK.
The serial number is odd too, it's 745GABC123
I've put a photo up on the 8500X page.

Hi Tailor,

Your 8500X must be a unique and rare phone! I do not have seen such a strange model or serial number before and I have seen a lot!

Very nice!

Best regards
Thomas

Hello again,

I was wrong, sorry Tailor! There is a difference between the DynaTAC 8000M with 20 buttons and the one with 21.

The model with the 21 buttons is a DynaTAC 8000F. I bought a new DynaTAC and there was the corresponding manual.

Sorry for my false statement!

Cheers
Thomas
