After a long search, I finally found this old baby. 8-) Unfortunately, the contacts are broken and therefore I can not test it.

Has anyone of you ever broken contacts replaced by new ones?

Cheers

I’d say you could probably solder some flat, bent pieces of metal to what’s left of the contacts, and that should work.

Isn’t this phone more like the 8000S rather than the 8100L? It’s from the same time-period as the 8000S, and is even an F09DSD like the 8000S is.

Hi NokiaTAC,

You're right! It has the same model number as some of my DynaTAC 8000S. I have corrected the description. Thanks a lot!

I didn’t want to say anything about this until I got it because I was skeptical that maybe it was too good to be true, but I found one of these things on eBay for absolutely dirt-cheap. It was far cheaper even than a run-of-the-mill 8000M or 8000F normally goes for. I think it had just been listed when I found it, because it wouldn’t have lasted long.

One of the battery contacts had broken off, but was still present thankfully, so I just soldered it back on. I also had to full-disassemble the phone and clean the contacts under the buttons. I also found that the fuse was blown, so I have it jumpered right now, but will install a proper fuse eventually.

Another thing is that this phone, like my 8000S, also won’t register with my test-set, which gives me hope they there is probably nothing wrong with either phone, and it’s my CMD80 being picky. I’ve had several other phones that did odd things and just overall don’t get along well with it.

So I’m now almost positive that the phones aren’t broken, because I think the odds of getting two with the exact same issue are pretty slim.

I should also mention that mine was made in 1986 just like my 8000S is.

Very happy to have another early DynaTAC in my collection!

Was this, in-fact, the first handheld phone in the America Series lineup? I’m pretty certain it was.
